This B25J Serial Number 43-28149 was assigned to the 41st Bombardment Group (BG) which was the only B25 unit in the Seventh Air Force. The B25J was based on Okinawa during the summer of 1945. The 41st BG played a critical role in the final months of the war, conducting low-altitude strafing and bombing missions against Japanese airfields, shipping and transportation facilities in Kyushu and Eastern china.
The "Ink Squirts" was a cartoon in the base newspaper of the Sea Bees of the 94th Battalion, on Tarawa in 1944. The nose art was painted by Jack Kellogg, who was well-known for his high quality aircraft illustrations during the war. The artwork featured a playful cartoon character (often associated with the 'Seabees' or naval construction themes), and typically included a mission tally represented by small bomb silhouettes.
The exact fate of the "Ink Squirts" after the war is not well-documented. Many B25s were retired or scrapped after the war ended in 1945.
